Can't restore/move backup or data file to new computer

Old computer, Win10 Enterprise, R50.16, Build 27.1.50.16. Quicken is running, backing up, etc. perfectly.

New Computer Win11 Home, same exact Quicken version & Build.

When I try and to restore a backup file on the new computer, get a "One or more backup files are missing" error.

Copying the Quicken data file over directly and trying to open gives Unable to open the selected file. And suggests running validate. But running validate gives Unable to validate your file. This file needs to be converted first.

I feel like I'm missing something obvious. Button sure what???

Thanks, Skip

Those error messages are usually associated with pre-2010 Quicken data files when the Quicken data was distributed among 4 different files instead of the single .QDF file that came into use in 2010. The only other instances I could find for these errors were associated with anti-virus programs that were causing the problem. You might try disabling any anti-virus you're running, or uninstalling and re-installing Quicken.

also, now that you moved the *.QDF files to the new computer,…..are they located on the harddrive or a cloud drive (e.g. OneDrive?)

they need to be on the harddrive….and the backup needs to be saved on the hardrive by QUicken…

Thanks!! I'll look at anti-virus first. Just using whatever came with Win11.

all the files were installed on an actual drive…

but now I'm wondering if because it's windows11 via parallels (on a Mac) that might be causing the problems. I'll try searching that out too.

    Thanks again!

    Skip,

I'm having the same issue when trying to load one of my .qdf files. I ran into this problem when I switched from one Surface Pro to a new one using Windows 11. Re-installed Quicken and it runs fine on the same version you mentioned, but this one file won't load and I'm getting the same message as you. This file is pretty important to me but after working with Quicken Support a couple times I'm baffled. If you have any luck keep us posted.

    Thanks!

Will do. Please do the same.

So far, disabling antivirus had no affect. Tried re-installing quicken, but no go.

Same here. I tried both and nothing. I have one .qdf data file that did carry over fine for me. This is my main file so I'm glad it still works, but I sure would like to open my second file!

    Keep Trying.

I'm thinking it's a Win11 issue. I was just able to load and restore on an old Win7 laptop with no issues at all. So definitely not a data file issue.

Were you still running the current version of Quicken on the Win7 laptop?

Just curious as Quicken Support had me install Quicken Deluxe 13 and it still would not load my file.

Well. For whatever reason, reinstalling Win11 has allowed me to restore the backup file. Everything seems to be working.

    ???

Glad you are back up and running. Maybe someone will come up with some more options to try on my end.
