Running Balance incorrect when using filtering in checking account register

Windows 10 pro, Quicken Deluxe R49.33

This problem has existed for several years of versions of Quicken.

In a check register, if I filter the transactions for a transaction name, the running balance column totals the transactions located as long as All Dates is selected.

If anything other than All Dates is selected for a date range, the running Balance column does not total accurately.

This is an aggravation that has lasted many version of Quicken.

Example: filtering on "cash spending" with All Dates. Running balance totals transactions correctly.

Example: filtering on "cash spending" with This Year. Running balance totals transactions incorrectly.

Example: filtering on "cash spending" with Last 12 Months. Running balance totals transactions correctly.

When will this be fixed?

    The issue is that when filtering a register, it is using the account balance on the starting date as the starting balance. With a starting date other than Earliest to date, the starting balance will generally not be zero, and thus the ending balance will not be the total of the selected transactions.

    If you click on All transactions a the top of the Account bar and filter that, you will not have this problem. The results default to all accounts, but if you just want one or selected accounts you can make that selection in the dropdown menu.

    Question to satisfy my curiosity…. what value does the 'running balance' provide when you are limited the transactions in some way?

    are you trying to understand the sum of all the transactions chosen? if so, that is what the reports are for.

    again, just curious.

    @Mark1104

    Note the running balance when All Dates is selected and transactions are limited to those containing "cash spending", versus when other than All Dates is selected. The behaviour is not the same.

    "what value does the 'running balance' provide when you are limited the transactions in some way?"

    Please look at the pictures I included. That specifically addresses your question.

    @Jim_Harman I never knew about All Transactions option. That works like a charm! Thank you.
