Is there not a 7 or 30 free trial? I have never used Quicken or Simplifi. I am looking to replace Mint that sucks so bad now, but I have no idea if Simplifi is better, does it really connect all my accounts, categorize expenses well etc. I need to free it before I buy!

You need to pay for the subscription up front. If within 30 days you find you do not like it or it does not meet your needs you can request a full refund with no questions asked. So, in a way it is like a free trial period just that you first need to pay for it.
