When we launch Quicken we get the following error: "The code execution cnnot proceed because OLEAUT32.DLL was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem."

Before reinstalling, how do we get the data file downloaded so we can import it into the reinstall if we can't launch quicken and export the data file??

The data is in a data file on your local harddrive, not in the cloud. Search your computer for *.QDF files, probably in the Documents/Quicken folder. Once found, either double click on it to cause Quicken to start and open that file or go thru File→Open Quicken file and browse to the data file you found.

Un-installing / installing Quicken does not have any affect on your data file.

The Quicken data file is a separate component of the product, independent of the software itself. You can have more than 1 Quicken data file on your computer if you so desire.

Usually, the Quicken data file(s) is/are stored in a folder called
    C:\Users\your_username\Documents\Quicken
Backups of the data file created by Quicken when you close the program are stored in
…\Documents\Quicken\Backup and/or a folder in an external USB drive or memory stick.

Unless you have stored your data files in an unusual location or plan to reformat your harddrive as part of reinstalling Windows, your data files should be safe.
It might be advisable to copy the folders containing your data file and its backups to a USB stick before you start reinstalling Quicken.

    • uninstall Quicken using this procedure:  https://www.quicken.com/support/how-do-i-uninstall-quicken-windows
    • Now open your Windows File Explorer and navigate to This PC > C: Drive > Program Files (x86) or
C:\Program Files (x86) and delete the folder titled "Quicken" (with all its files and subfolders)
    • When done, reboot your computer and then reinstall Quicken from your account at quicken.com or your installation CD or saved downloaded installation file and allow it to update to the latest available patch release level.
    • When reinstallation is complete, start Quicken as usual
