How to update credit card account with a new card?

When a card is cancelled (due to fraud) and a new one is issued, what is the best way to do this? The card number field is greyed out unless I deactivate online services, and then it becomes a hassle to reactivate the service again because it usually fails multiple times, or just sits there spinning for quite a long time while "activating your accounts". This has to be a fairly common occurrence, right? Shouldn't there be an easier way to do this, after all it's really the same account?

I've done this any number of times over a 20+ year span and you have the right idea. Deactivate and reactivate is pretty simple and you shouldn't have issues where "…it becomes a hassle…". It shouldn't take you more than 2 minutes to go through the process.
