Using data file from Samba Net etc

yuriw Quicken Windows 2017 Windows Beta Beta

Hello

I am running QW on Windows VM and also from a laptop.

That seems to be presenting issues when I do accounts online update and several banks seem to have issues with it.

How do people do the following cases:

  1. Use a data file file located on network, e.g. Samba drive, Dropbox etc.
  2. Use two local files (copy of the same data file) and be able to do online update accounts with no errors

TIA

Quicken does not support storing an active data file in a network or cloud folder due to the possibility of corruption.

To make a copy of a data file and be able to do online updates:

Quicken —> File —> Copy or Backup File… —> Create a copy or template

This will disconnect all online services and create a new dataset.

"Quicken does not support storing an active data file in a network or cloud folder due to the possibility of corruption"

This is exactly what I am suggesting to the dev team to improve :)

Quicken's database is so old, it would take a complete rewrite to support network or cloud storage. I don't think that will ever happen.

    @yuriw

If you want your Quicken data file on a network drive, write a command routine to copy the file from the shared/network drive to the local drive; start Quicken, opening the newly created local copy of the data file; do your Quicken stuff; close Quicken and copy the local file back to the shared/network drive.

Doing it this way, solves the issue of Quicken not supporting network file storage and you still get to keep your data file on the shared/network drive.

    What about my second point?

I have two identical local copies of the data file and when QW does online accounts updates some banks (Schwab, Chase etc) become very unhappy and have to be reauthorized etc?
