Credit Card Account Number Changed, But Updating It is Not Intuitive

Due to someone fraudulently using my CC, the CC number was changed and a new card issued. Per a google search, to update the account number, Quicken support instructed users to inactivate the old account and open a new Quicken account with the new CC number.

But this instruction is illogical (bordering on imbecilic)n as it means the register documenting prior CC use would be "lost," yet another account would be added, cluttering the desktop, and this would add more confusion than i8s necessary. So, I am hopeful someone knows how to update the CC number without losing past activity.

Does anyone know how to update a CC number, keeping the register documenting past activities?

Merry Christmas!

Or… you can create a new account, and then go to the old account, Select all transactions, and drag them to the new account, thus putting all your transactions back in one place. (And then you'd delete the empty old account.)

Often their instructions leave out the big picture which is what most of us want to read / see…

You can go about it in a couple of ways…. either going to the account settings and clicking on Disconnect Account and then afterwards click on Connect Account… … or use their awkward process of creating a 'new' account connection… all of which will lead you to the same place…

The big picture bit that they leave out is that saying you want a 'new' account (or using Connect from the old account settings)… does NOT create a new account register unless you want it to. You will be presented with a list of all accounts at the financial institution… and will then be able to select from drop-downs if you want those accounts to be linked to existing registers in Quicken …or to create new registers. Of course, you want to link the new credit card account to the old register. Once you've OK'd out of that, all will be back to normal and transactions for the new card number will be added to the existing register, your reconciliations will work as normal etc.

The key is to make sure that the dialog you see says to 'link' the online account to the proper register before leaving that dialog.
