Moving money from a bank account to an investment account is not an expense, it is a transfer. You should use the category "Transfer" to show the movement of the funds.

EDIT: This QWin topic was originally posted in QMac and my answer was for QMac. The format for recording a transfer in QWin is different (see @splasher's answer below), but the concept is the same.

RickO gave you a Mac based response since you have evidently posted in a Mac forum category.

The part of his response that does not work in Win Quicken is the category of "Transfer". Transfers in Quicken Windows are just like he stated, they are not an expense, they are just moving money from one account to another. The category in the non-investment account transaction will be the receiving account's name in square brackets, such as [XYZ investments]. Likewise, the investment account transaction will in [ ] also, such as [Checking].

You might think it is an expense to transfer funds to an investment account and buy shares in something, but you are just changing what you are holding your funds in from cash to stocks/bonds/cds.

Thank you both. I just wanted to have it in a category other than uncategorized.
