"Imagecheck" appears in quicken downloads from banking institution
One of the features I like in Quicken Deluxe is the ability to download transactions from my bank checking account. REcently, instead of information in the downloads that contains check number and name of payee (as I had entered in my Quicken register), I get the word "Imagecheck" and then the amount of the check. This forces me to do a manual match which can be quite time consuming. Is there a setting that downloads info re payee and check number? Is this an issue for my banking institution.

The Payee downloaded from the FI for checks will never have the payee that you wrote on the check. The only info the FI gets from the check is the stuff across the bottom in the odd font along with the amount that they add to the bottom. All I get is "Check ####" from my credit union. Now, why your FI is not supplying the check # in the check # field I can't tell you.
You need to complain to your FI.

Thanks, Splasher. Previously I did get more information from the download file, including payee and check number, so I am curious as to why the change.

The only time I can think of where I might have gotten a payee is when it was a billpay check generated thru my FI's website, but I know I have never gotten one due to a handwritten paper check.

Another possibility where, instead of "Check 1234" you get a Payee Name is when the vendor converted the paper check into an electronic debit transaction. Some companies do that … but then you may not get a check number either.
Paper checks you write should be recorded in Quicken as you write the check (and BEFORE you download transactions which might contain the cleared check). That gives you a register transaction with correct check number, payee name, category, etc.
No matter what information is downloaded from the bank, you already have a correct register transaction which the downloaded data cannot mess up.0 -
I get payees from hand-written paper checks from my Morgan Stanley brokerage account. I never learned whether OCR or human eyes look at the checks. It's my only FI that records and downloads the payee names.
