PNC Bank Downloads

For the last 2-3 years PNC bank daily downloads alway fail with error error OL-297. Work-around has been to reset account (sometimes up to 10 tries to work) or reboot PC. Calls to PNC on-line dept have been worthless; promised call-backs never happened. SUDDENLY, MAGICALLY, downloads began working properly 12/29/23 and continue since then. I have to think a server issue on PNC end that was fixed, upgraded. If so, they waited a long time to address.

    It turns out that turning on my VPN allows my PNC update to succeed every time. Turning off VPN, PNC update fails, requiring account reset or PC reboot. I have no idea why. Maybe slower connect speed?

    That's odd. Turning off VPN will often fix connections that were failing when the VPN was on, not the other way around. One of the main things VPNs do is to hide your location from others and that can cause problems with connections with many higher security websites. I know that when I have had my VPN on, I cannot connect with PNC bank. Now I use VPN only on unsecured wifi networks because of this.

    Another thing that some VPNs will do is to block cookies, adds and popups. This can also cause connection issues with some websites. To fix this, when trying to connect with a website I trust, I will whitelist that website or will turn off the blocking features for that website.

    BTW, I bank with PNC. In my main data file I have Direct Connect set up for those accounts and for the most part it has been very reliable for the last nearly 2-1/2 yrs. I also have these PNC accounts set up with Express Web Connect+ in a test data file for the last 9 months and for the most part it works equally well.

    I'm glad you got your download connection working, again. The last 2-3 yrs must have been frustrating for you.
