Why did Validation and Rebuilding Lots increased QDF size

Longtime Quicken for Windows user with QDF of 340MB.

I copied QDT and ran Validate and Rebuilt Lots on the QDF copy. No errors found on copy.

I used copy to continue using Quicken instead of original file.

I noticed the size of the copy file was 576 MB compared to original file size of 340 MB.

Both original file and copy run smoothly with no apparent problems.

I am afraid to keep using copy because of large size and eventually getting a QDF too large for Quicken.

Why did Validate with rebuilding of lots increase file size so dramatically?

The size really doesn't matter that much, but I would be more inclined to use the original.

Unfortunately, there really isn't any way to tell why validate enlarged the data file.

One thing you might try is Copy/template. This copy is a record by record copy that leaves "deleted" records behind. And that might reduce the size of the validated file. If might even fix the problem if you do that copy first and then the validate.

Be aware though the copy will have all of the online services turned off and they will have to be activated again.
