Missing Brokerage Accounts

I have a 90-day gap in early 2023 that is missing transactions from a brokerage. Quicken created "Placeholder Entries" for these transactions. How can I update Quicken to "find" these missing transactions and eliminate the placeholders?

Thank you,

mucrick

Financial institutions download data for only a specific window of time. When an existing investment account is first set up for downloads and there were holdings in that account prior to setting it up with Quicken, there will be transactions outside of that download window that do not get downloaded. Quicken will then add Placeholders for those missing transactions so that the shares balance in Quicken is accurate.

The only way to "find" those missing transactions is to manually enter them from either monthly/quarterly statements from the brokerage or from the online transactions data. Once the missing transactions are entered, the Placeholders can be deleted.

What many people do instead of manually entering all of the missing transactions is to simply do an Add Shares transaction for each of the securities that have Placeholders. Do one Add Shares transaction for the total of the missing shares and enter an average cost for them (for cost basis calculations). Make sure that each Add Shares transaction is dated from before the dates of the respective Placeholders….perhaps using the earliest 2023 date in your register for which you have actual transactions posted.

Hi, Boatnmaniac. Thank you for your response. That makes sense. Although not ideal, I understand.
