Quicken Freezing when paying bills

There seems to be something going on with the Bills and Income tab. First Quicken stared locking up when I was editing a Paycheck. Now it is locking up when I'm paying bills. Please fix this problem. Quicken has become very irritating to use.

It used to only lock up when accessing the bills tab. It still does sometimes. Like the OP said, lately it's been locking up after entering bills as well. It happens often but not every time.

If you haven't done so already, please do the following actions:

    1. Even if you are on the latest software level already, download and install the latest Manual Patch file from https://www.quicken.com/support/update-and-patch-20182019-release-quicken-windows-subscription-product to ensure your Quicken software is up to date and correctly installed.
    2. Reboot Windows.
    3. Start Quicken. Do not run One Step Update.
    4. Run BOTH Validate and Supervalidate to attempt to repair your Quicken data file.
    5. If nothing helps, try to restore your Quicken data file from an Automatic or Manual backup taken just prior to the problems first occurring. https://www.quicken.com/support/how-backup-or-restore-your-quicken-data

    Validate and Supervalidate instructions
First save a backup file prior to performing these steps
    Validate:
    • Click File
    • Select Validate and Repair File...
    • Select Validate File
    • If the data file contains investment accounts also select "Rebuild investing lots".
    • If you suspect that a damaged Quotes Price History causes your problems, also select "Correct investing price history" functions "Delete" or "Repair and Rebuild".
    • Click OK
    • Review the Data Log. Anything interesting in there, worthwhile posting here?
    • Close Quicken (leave it closed for about 30 secs)
    • Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

    Super Validate:
    • Click File
    • Press and hold both CTRL and Shift keys while you click Validate and Repair File...
    • Select Supervalidate File
    • Click OK
    • Review the Data Log. Anything interesting in there, worthwhile posting here?
    • Close Quicken (leave it closed for about 30 secs)
    • Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

Validated and supercleaned last night. This morning the program froze when I accessed the Bills tab all three tries so far each time requring task manager to end task. Just great😒

There was no reprieve. Had to restore my backup to get back into the bills tab at all.

Before you try to work with Bills again, please perform the Review and Repair Online Billers action.
From the Bills, Income & Transfers tab click the Settings gear icon, click Review and Repair, then click Review and Repair Online Billers.

If that still doesn't fix things, contact Quicken Support on the phone during posted hours of operation

Wound up calling in and Support had me create a backup-template file. Unfortunately, to his surprise, the bill reminders (both online and manua)l didn't carry over so all needed to be redone and all accounts that had online services needed to be reconnected.

Online services did not get set up up consistently. Many weren't shown as having updated after OSU (weren't even listed in the summary) so I deleted the runtime.dat file and reset EACH individual account that didn't show up in the OSU summary.

Trying to set up some of the online bill reminders resulted in crash and auto close instances until the associated account was set up for online services.

Finally everything seems to be working well. I've gone a few days with this file and it hasn't frozen or locked up.

    What an ordeal.
