VERY slow speed when saving transactions

I've been with Quicken for more than 20 years, and the size of my database has become HUGE (over 250,000KB). For more than 10 of these years, I've noticed a gradual degradation of how long it takes to save a transaction — to edit a transaction, it now takes 3-4 seconds; multiply that by a huge number of transactions per month, and there is a large amount of time just sitting and waiting. I have nearly 50 accounts, and tons of checks written, credit card transactions and investments. So instead of saving me time, Quicken is now costing me considerable time. I am very SURPRISED and DISAPPOINTED that Quicken does not come up with solutions for its most faithful (oldest) users, who are the ones who will have these large numbers.

When I call Support, Quicken suggests archiving older data, but if I do that, I can no longer access the cost basis for stock transactions as well as when I had older transactions (unless I restore an archive, which is totally cumbersome — the opposite of what Quicken is supposed to be). I a, "begging" Quicken to come up with a solution that is seamless and will work for its larger database customers.

BTW, I have a very fast computer with a lot of memory (16GB RAM, 350 GB free on the hard drive). I am using Quicken R54.16 and am on the current Build.

Are any others experiencing this problem? Can Quicken respond to address this issue and offer a future upgrade/solution without my having to go through a whole bunch of needless steps?

Is your data file so large because you have a lot of transactions or that you keep attachments?

Do you have lots of investment transactions? If so, Q has an investment archive routine that takes a current investment account and pulls out only the active positions into a new account (still in the same data file) which will improve the performance of that account but still retain your history. The archive account will not put a drain on system resources until you look in it or run a report that uses it.
