Is it just me, or is Quicken for Mac becoming ridiculously slow?
Running Version 7.6.1 (Build 706.52627.100) on a smokin' fast Mac, so why does it take 10 seconds to enter a grocery receipt?

I have not heard or seen similar complaints of this. It is quite fast for me with 34 years of transactions, many investments, and various payees/categories.
You might have something going on with your smokin' fast Mac-perhaps with the OS or your file location. It should be stored in the default location on your machine in your user library file and not on a network/cloud/etc. That is the first place I would look-Quicken is reading/writing (saving) in real time each time you save a transaction.

Another thing to check, even though it sounds silly, is whether you have any reports or account windows open beghind the main Quicken window. It's easy to open a a report one day, not close it, and the next time Quicken opens, it's behind the main window and you're not even aware of it. One or more open reports can make Quicken seem really sluggish. Check the Window menu to see if there is anything beneath "Sync Errors" on the menu; if so, select and close those window(s), and see if that solves your problem.
For what it's worth, I echo John above: I have 30+ years of data and Quicken remains very fast. The only thing which I find a little slow are searches when set to All Transactions, which can take 4-5 seconds to execute. But entering a transaction takes perhaps one full second to see and allow me to do the next action.

I, too, am a longtime Quicken user, and I appreciate everyone's insights into the pokiness of the application.
I will follow the advice, and report back.
I have been keeping the "All Transactions…" window open in the background to deal with some tax prep and imagine that is somewhat of a churn for the application.
I will pare down my windows, crosscheck my file locations, and see if this gets rid of the sluggishness.
