Any solution to the ongoing hidden account issue?

I've seen several posts over the last 4 years (most recent was 2023) about this annoying problem. I have a dozen closed accounts that were marked hidden and yet, whenever I select a drop-down, those ancient accounts still show up (in parentheses of course). Would love to get them out completely but don't really want to delete them.

    How about renaming them to start with ZZZ, so at least they fall to the bottom of the list?
