Memorized Categories

I have a payee that has a category associated with it. Example Byerlys is a grocery store and my category is Groceries. However when transactions come through they do have the word Byerlys in it, but depending on she store location, it will not automatically use that same category, Groceries.

In addition, I may use different credit cards for this, and they sometimes show up slightly differently, even though they are still the same Payee.

Question: how can I associate these various locations to automatically categorize. it with the same category of Groceries.

I suggest that you make a Renaming Rule in Quicken to change the payee to be just the short name of Byerlys if the downloaded payee contains Byerlys, thus getting rid of the extraneous text like store #, etc.

Now, with the shorter payee, it will match up with your Memorized Payee (MP) with the appropriate category. This assumes that the saved MP has the short payee in it.
