Renaming
Mistakenly posted this question to the Quicken for Mac community. I am using Quicken Classic Business and Personal Version R54.16
I have a few Payees that add a code, location, and date to the end of the downloaded transaction - for example "Allsup Xx2392 Roswell NM 12/26" and "Allsup Xx2317 Taos NM 2/12". Can I use renaming to make them both and any others with different locations or dates just "Allsup" so that Quicken will autofill category and tag? If possible can someone coach me through the process. Thanks.

Note with this "normalizing" of the payee's name then you can now have just one memorized payee that has the right category to be automatically selected when this payee is downloaded.

Tools → Renaming Rules → Add a rule:
And the added step to change to "contains", find that renaming rule in that last and expand it:
Change If "Quicken name is" to "If payee contains" (note this looks for this in both the downloaded payee name and the downloaded memo).
Renaming rules are only applied at the download time so you have to wait till the next download to see this effect.
Another way to do this is if this preference is on:
Here is a downloaded transaction:
And I change the payee's name and hit Enter:
Above is what you get if there is already a renaming rule for that payee. Here is what it looks like if there isn't already one (the same as hitting Create New Rule… above):
Click on the blue text to decide what to look for like this (bold words are the ones I selected):
For new rules I suggest you check that they are getting the "If contains…" by looking at them in Tools → Renaming Rules.
