Category nested under another Category (Q Mac)

I have two different places somewhere where two or more categories added together=a category above them. How do I get rid of the two categories that are the totals?

    A. Make Electric and Water transactions changed to (merged into) Utilities, so that Electric and Water go away?

If your answer is (A), then you will want to select Utilities in the Categories window, then hold down the Command key on the keyboard and select Electric. You will then have Utilities and Electric highlighted. Now click the Merge Categories button at the bottom of the window. Make sure "Utilities" is selected in the "Into" popup, then click the Merge button. Repeat for the other subcategory(ies).

One quick tweak to the above instructions: you don't need to merge the categories one at a time; you can select multiple categories/subcategories (using Command-click to select each one), click the Merge button, specify which category they will all be merged into, and click Merge.
