Anyway to add multiple calendars to Home tab?

I'd like to add multiple calendars (showing different accounts) to my Home tab. I thought this was possible in the past but can't seem to figure it out w/ the newest versions.

@zekes I'm looking at my Quicken for Windows Subscription (R56.9) and I am not seeing any way to add multiple views to the Home tab, or to add cards that are not in the predefined list. No Calendar view or calendar card. Wondering if this is only on some versions of Quicken.

I can bring up a pop-up Calendar view using Tools Calendar

@veegee the "new Dashboard" is extremely limited, you need to use the "Classic Dashboard/View".

@zekes I'm having no problem adding multiple Calendars to a given view and you can have multiple views using the Classic Dashboard.

To turn on the Classic select the gear settings icon in the upper right. The default view is called My Money. Once you select that you can select the gear icon again and select Customize or Add View.

@Chris_QPW , Thanks. I switched back to Classic Dashboard, move to 'MyMoney' tab and then was able to add a view and add a calenda to a view.

(Funny that the 'new dashboard' has less functionality than the old, but then, that is a different topic.)

@Chris_QPW - I have classic dashboard turned on (using the top right gear icon, then sliding the Classic Dashboard slider to the right until it turns blue). However, when I click the gear icon again - I do not see "Add View".

If I click Customize, I see the same menu as when Classic is disabled.

Select the "My Money" tab first. You are still on the "New Dashboard".

@Chris_QPW - I created a test file and it works the say you mentioned in your original reply. Oddly, in my "real" data file - it never gives me the ability to create views. Hmm.

@zekes Are you going to Home tab, selecting 'My Money' view subtab, clicking on Settings gear icon, clicking on 'Customize view', adding calendar that way? (See instructions/notes from @Chris_QPW above). Like @Chris_QPW said, I was able to create multiple views, with multiple calendars on each view. (I did not try customizing any of the calendars with different accounts, but thinking that should work.) If it works, you can thank @Chris_QPW for the answer.

Try toggling the "Classic Dashboard" setting on and off. And then back on.

I don't see "My Money" anywhere. And, yes, I am trying to turn on the classic views but it seems like that slider doesn't do anything (when in my actual data file). If I create a test data file, it acts like you are telling me. Wondering how to reset the app settings w/o affecting my data file.

I just tried this in a new file and got this (not My Money, but View 2), but it still worked.

For you, you might try to do validate and repair in the problem data file.

@zekes , can you try again in your REAL data file:
    1) verify classic dashboard is enabled
    2) Go to Home tab and then 'My Money tab (NOT the Dashboard tab)
    3) Gear icon, then customize view

When I initially tried this, I has not selected the 'My Money' tab. Tried again after reading @Chris_QPW answer and it worked.

The "Reset to Default" is for the "New Dashboard", any customizing it will be lost, but otherwise not too much change (have a backup just in case). I doubt it will affect this problem, but you never know with a bug like this.

@Chris_QPW , on an existing Data file, once I enable the new dashboard (i.e. disable the classic dashboard), I seem to have NO ability to create new views, and there is no 'My Money' pre-created view.
It may work on a new Data file, but that is not really an option for most users.

I don't see a My Money tab. Maybe part of the bug?

  • zekes

Tried this, no change. I also validated my data file and reinstalled the app. Still doesn't work. Very odd. Guess it's a bug. I tried creating a copy of my data file to see if the copy had the same behavior - it does.

@zekes , make sure you have enabled the 'classic dashboard'. If you go to Setting gear icon and click on on the drop-down arrow, you should see a TOGGLE button at the bottom with the name 'Classic dashboard'. If this button is moved to the left and gray, then you need to change it to the right (blue). Once you change it, wait for 2 minutes for it to take effect! After that verify that the change did take place.
Looks like one needs to use the old 'Classic Dashboard' in order to 1) see 'MyView' view, 2) add any views, or 3) to add calendar to any view. In others words, looks like only the new Dashboard has been only partially developed so far.

This is what doesn't work properly. On my real data file, I turn on the slider and it looks like this (even after waiting for 5 minutes):

I created a blank, test, data file. When I move the slider to the right, the menu looks like this:

My app is not switching to the classic view on my real data file. Guess I'll have to call support or something.

Thanks to you both! I ended up calling support. They had me create a new data file (that works when changing to Classic), export the data from the old account and then importing it into the new file. Works perfectly now. Really appreciate the ideas!

@zekes , I can suggest one last thing to try (on the real data file):

Close and re-open Quicken. Check the 'Classic Dashboard' slider on the 'Home' tab. Then do 1 or 2 below as appropriate.

    1. If the slider is to the left and greyed out,

1a. click the right edge of the slider.

1b. WAIT till display window blanks out and re-draws.

1c. Verify that the slider is positioned to the right, and it is blue.

1d. You should see additional tabs now IN ADDITION to the Dashboard tab.

1e. Click on one of the 'My Money', 'My Summary', 'My Home' tabs.

1f. Click Settings Gear icon again. Now you should see 'Customize View' and 'Add View' items in the drop-down.

Choose Customize View on any view (other than Dashboard) - you can add/remove one or more calendars here.

Or you can create a brand new custom view and do the same.

    2. If the slider is to the right and and is blue,

follow steps 1d through 1f above.

Let me know if it works.
    ________
I did not see your note above (you created a new data file) before I experimented and wrote the above steps. Anyway, if it happens to anyone else, they can try the above steps if they do not want to create a new data file.

@zekes Thanks for the information. I figured that was what was used but wanted to be sure. It works for non-investment accounts and for "simple investment accounts". By simple investment accounts I mean that I have tried it on small test data files and have it work, but it doesn't work right on my full data file which has more complicated transactions like ESOs.

@zekes In this particular case I think migrating the data file may have been an overkill solution suggested by support, even though I completely understand your frustration and the need for you to move on.

The reason why I say this is because:
I suspect the issue you had is because you had not selected the 'My Money' tab after switching to Classic Dashboard. I suspect that moving to a new Datafile simply started you off with the correct Settings that you need (Classic Dashboard, and view set to 'My Money'). Even now, if you switch to the New Dashboard, and then switch back to the Classic Dashboard, you are likely to encounter the same issue. Why? Because doing so will switch the view to 'Dashboard', not 'My Money'. You have to manually make the change at this point to 'My Money' before you see the ability to add calendars.

(It is a flawed design, IMHO, and there are many design issues with this feature I can point to, but this is not the right place to discuss that).

But, your issue is resolved for now, and unless you encounter problems with the new data file, you are OK. Like @Chris_QPW points out, this type of migration can cause issues in some cases. For example, I don't know how well it handles inter-account (linked) transfers.

@veegee the screenshots showed that both that the Classic dashboard was selected and that no other view other than the new one was showing (two different screenshots).

@Chris_QPW Yes, you are correct - both have the the Classic dashboard selected. Note that his screenshots do not show the "sub-tab" i.e. '| Dashboard | My Money | My Summary | …. selection, however. From testing, I can see that his first screen is a result of selecting the sub-tab 'Dashboard' in the list above.

In the second pic (new Data File) he had Classic dashboard selected, but I think he also had the sub-tab 'My Money' selected - probably because that was the initial default in a new Data File. But I think even in the new Data file, if we switches from 'My Money' sub-tab to 'Dashboard' sub-tab, he will see the initial problem he saw. In other words, IMO. all that happened by going to the new data file was that he was switched from 'Dashboard' to 'My Money' without he himself directly making that change. In your Quicken, if you switch from 'My Money' to 'Dashboard' sub-tab you will see this. This implementation is of the sub-tabs and 'new/classic' is very confusing - it threw me for a loop as well when I initially started looking at it. The current 'Default' sub-tab probably should not even show up when 'Classic Dashboard' is selected.

I was going to send the above text to you via private messaging instead of posting here, but could not see how to do that.
