How do I recategorize the uncategorized?

The documentation says to use a space in the search bar, yet that brings up all the categories that have spaces in them and does not bring up anything uncategorized. I've tried the Other and the Not categories, and the uncategorized are not in there.

I'm using the Windows subscription version and just bought it in May 2024 so it's the current version.

Run a transaction report to find all of the uncategorized transactions and you can edit/change them from the report.

I don't see where any report lets me make changes to transactions.

I figured it out, and it's a bug in Quicken. Tools → Recategorize. then uncheck Exact Match. Then type a space in the search bar. Then recheck Exact Match. Then click Find.

If you don't uncheck Exact Match first and type a space in the search bar it only brings up the categories that have a space. If you uncheck Exact Match and type a space it brings up no results. You have to uncheck Exact Match, type the space, then recheck Exact Match, then Find.

    Definitely a user interface defect/bug.

@barbdz I think you need to use "Exact" in order for the "space" to find uncategorized transactions for either "Quicken Find" or "Find and Replace".

These two functions will search across all accounts and there is no way to filter on accounts. For investment accounts it will list every Buy, Sell, Add, or Remove transaction. I am not sure why it does this, but I think it's because those transactions do not have categories

If you do a report as @splasher suggested, you can then filter on Accounts to exclude all investment accounts.

@barbdz our posts must have "crossed", but wanted to reiterate that the search functions will produce a list of all investment buy, sells, add, or remove. Because of this the list might take a while to produce and be very long so finding actual uncategorized transactions might be difficult to do.
