Quicken Cloud & Restore from Backup - issues (edit)

Long time Quicken Classic user, over 20 years, on Windows 10/11

I spend a lot of time on the road and from time to time I need to restore from -backup.

Quicken Restore from BackUp virtually always screws up my accounts file such that I have to call Quicken to find out how to fix the various problems. I've read enough Community.Quicken comments from sincere, long-term, knowledgeable users that I believe those that say there is something about Quicken Cloud that disturbs the proper use of Quicken -backup.QFD files.

Here's the deal for my Quicken Cloud: 1- I don't want any of my files in the cloud. Simply no one has cyber-security that is 100% un-hackable/foolproof so far. I have something like 15 accounts that I use on Quicken. I never knowingly put my data file on Quicken Cloud.

On Quicken Cloud, using the mobile app, it shows only 3 accounts, which are 2 checking and one savings account all at the same institution. Quicken says there is a problem with one of those accounts on the cloud.

1- How can I take my data completely off Quicken Cloud? I just want to store my data on my own.

2- How can I restore from a Quicken backup file and have a pristine working copy without errors requiring hours to correct, virtually always requiring a call to the Quicken guru staff?

3- I don't need more bells and whistles on Quicken. I need fast, efficient, error free performance.

Just wondering…

You do realize, as a Quicken User of 20 years - that the Mobile APP has to use the Quicken Cloud to get to your data -
Also - depending upon your financial institution downloading protocol -
any of the EWC connections are using the Intuit "cloud" servers -

    1. Disconnect all accounts from EWC and EWC+. Shut off Web and Mobile Syncing both in Preferences and at the account level (on the Web and Mobile tab). Verify that none of your accounts are not "Sync Enabled" by clicking on Help and then click on "About Quicken" while holding down the Ctrl and Shift keys, and then at the bottom of the screen click on "More info…". You will get a detailed statistical report of what is in your Quicken data file. You will also see a chart of all your accounts and whether or not they are "Sync Enabled"

The personal and financial information (from accounts using EWC and EWC+) is gathered by Intuit for Quicken is stored on Intuit and Quicken servers (aka the cloud). The Quicken cloud is where your data that you use for Mobile and Web is stored. The servers that Quicken uses is hosted by a company called ACS.

Also for any account that uses EWC or EWC+, you are giving Quicken/Intuit permission to log into your account and gather this personal and financial information and data daily.

When you use Direct Connect (DC) or Web Connect (WC) your financial data is not collected and stored on intuit/Quicken servers. Information is gathered directly from the financial institution's server.

It is interesting to note that Quickbooks uses WC and DC only and not EWC or EWC+.

I have requested via CCPA a data dump of the information they have collected from my accounts. I am still waiting for the results.

EDIT - ACS s/b AWS which stands for Amazon Web Services.

@lawrs21813 regarding item #2, I would recommend setting the automatic backups to every time you exit Quicken. I would also set your manual backup reminder to every time you exit Quicken. This way you can choose to make the manual backup or not each time you end a Quicken session.

As for restoring a backup, I prefer to just remove the backup extension (and just leaving .QDF extension) and open the data file. Sometimes when you go through the "normal" restore process, it can also kick off a web sync process.

@QuickUserPSP I'm pretty sure the A in ACS is Amazon. Not sure where you found the term ACS. Amazon has tons of such services with different abbreviations. Anyways a while back when Amazon had a major problem and was offline for a while Quicken was down with it. So I think we know who supplies their cloud services.

@Chris_QPW you are right that is a typo on my part. ACS should be AWS which stands for Amazon Web Services. In my head I keep thinking "Amazon Cloud Services".
