Why does quicken mess up my balances and put transactions into accounts that are closed for 20 yrs

In March and June - I have had Quicken Classic Deluxe (Windows 11 Enterprise, Version R56.9) do something that messes up my check book total. Just tonight by $10k in my favor. Another symptom is it put a negative $405 into an account that has been closed and hidden for 20 years. Are there problems with this release? I apply every update Quicken asks for.

    Hello @dhaars,

    To start with, I suggest that you please try validating and/or super validating your data file. However, I do recommend that you first save a backup file prior to performing these steps.

    Validate: 

    1. File
    2. Validate and Repair File...
    3. Validate File
    4. Click OK
    5. Close the Data Log
    6. Close Quicken (leave it closed for at least 5 secs)
    7. Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

    If the issue persists, proceed to Super Validate. If the issue is resolved after performing validation, then please disregard the instructions to Super Validate.

    Super Validate:

    1. File
    2. Hold CTRL + Shift and click Validate and Repair File...
    3. Super Validate File
    4. Click OK
    5. Close the Data Log
    6. Close Quicken (leave it closed for at least 5 secs)
    7. Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

    Is your account register properly "marked closed" in Quicken? Just hiding it doesn't close it.
    Check the account status in Tools / Manage Hidden Accounts.

    In older versions of Quicken (many years ago), the process of closing an account in Quicken did apparently not work correctly. Validate and Supervalidate might fix that …

    Are you syncing your data file to the server, for use with the Quicken on the Web or the Quicken smartphone app?
    If so, is the old account still marked enabled for syncing?
    Are you actively using the smartphone app or the Web app?
    The Sync process is suspected of causing weird problems with the Opening Balance transaction of accounts …

    @dhaars you are not the only one this is happening to. There are other users who have posted similar issues and incidences. I also had the exact same thing happen to me at the end of May. I know of another user that had the same issue on the same day as me.
