"Quicken balance" shows incorrect amount in reconciliation history

Hi. I entered my Quicken app on my desktop to find a discrepancy that Quicken invented all of a sudden from 3 1/2 years ago. It shows the incorrect amount for the Quicken balance for that date. This account is handled manually. Not sure how to fix this error. Please advise. Using Mac ver 7.7.1. I just upgraded to 7.8.0 in case that fixed the issue but it didn't. I chatted with support and this is their final suggestion "In that case it means that you have missing transactions or also duplicated and the transactions could have the incorrect balances you just need to find the amount that is missing". Except I don't.

There's no way anyone here can diagnose your incorrect balance with just a description that the balance is off. Unfortunately, what Quicken Support told you is correct: you have to check your data to see what's missing or duplicated or changed. There's no way to know whether the software changed some transactions or you did something inadvertently without knowing it. (I know you're probably certain it can't be something you did, and you may be right! But it sometimes turns out that user error is a culprit in a seemingly random change in data.)

But there's a tool which might help you find the source of the discrepanc(ies): your Reconciliation History. You indicate you have been using Quicken for some time, and you obviously aren't new to reconciling. So go to Accounts > Reconciliation History and find the first (oldest) month in the list which shows a discrepancy. Click Re-Reconcile. The Re-Reconcile screen will show you what transaction(s) was deleted, added, or edited after the original reconciliation. You can click a button to restore a deleted transaction. (You can also click Back and Cancel if you don't want to change anything.)
