downloaded transactions don't match to existing transactions if already downloaded before?
I have a transaction that is already in a register (seems from previous download of a .qfx file).
I then download a new .qfx file for the bank which has new transactions (next month) plus also a few of the ones I previously downloaded.
it shows up in the bottom to accept transactions. But the new transaction which is identical to the one already in the register says 'New' and if I click on 'match manually' a pop up box comes up and says 'there are no transactions to match'. This is clearly wrong. How do I match it manually?
Why is this occurring? Note that the new transactions in the new file that don't overlap with the ones already downloaded before are fine to add. Does it mean that Quicken cannot match transactions that were not manually entered in the first place, that if you download them and then re-download them it cannot match them even manually?

In the download file, no matter which download method is used, there's a field called 'FITID' (Financial Institution Txn ID). That's how Q detects, and tries to prevent, duplicates. This field is created by the FI, not Q.
BUT, when the download method changes, quite a few FIs, create a new (different) FITID … so Q doesn't recognize the txn as a dupe.
This can readily lead to your situation.
