Quicken not matching download transactions for renamed security
I have Vanguard mutual funds in my Fidelity 401k. I didn't like the names originally provided so I renamed the securities in Quicken to something more readable. For the past several months, perhaps even dating to last year, when I download investment transactions from Fidelity, Quicken isn't matching the transactions to the correct security. If I accept the transactions, Quicken creates a new holding in the account for the original name. I then have to go back and edit the transactions to point them to the right security. Also, when finishing the update, Quicken reports a mismatch in my holdings because it's reading from Fidelity the old name and can't match my actual holding under the new name. The attached screenshot illustrates the problem.
How can I fix this permanently? It's quite annoying every month I download transactions.
I am running Quicken Classic Premier R55.26 on a Windows 10 system.

I understand that VANG WELLESLEY ADM is your shortened name for the fund.
When you edit the details of that fund in Quicken, does it show the VWIAX ticker symbol? If not, add that in.
Does it show it as checked for Matched with online security (similar to see below)? If so, is the CUSIP = 921938205 (Other info screen). You cannot enter that CUSIP ID; I wanted to make sure it was not matched to some different security.
Once you have the ticker symbol inserted, from the account transaction list you should be able to select the upper right gear icon, select Reconcile shares, and then match the Fidelity version to your VANG WELLESLEY ADM version.

I hold multiple Fidelity funds in multiple Fidelity accounts. EVERY one has a shortened name, not the "full" fund name.
BUT, they are "Matched with online security" and the CUSIPs match … and there's no problem with the downloaded txn matching.
This doesn't appear to be an issue of "shortened name" but rather a user error.

Actually the fully-spelled-out name is the one I made, and it has VWIAX as the ticker symbol and 921938205 for CUSIP.. The VANG WELLESLEY ADM name comes in the downloaded transaction. And when Quicken adds that security to the list because it can't match, it has no ticker symbol and OQFR for the CUSIP. So something is amiss in the info being downloaded, IMO.

Quicken should not be "adding that security to the list" without your OK. The normal pattern when an brokerage sends a previously unknown (to your Quicken file) security is that the program offers to match it to something close, let you match it to a security you choose, or create a new security in your file. You are supposed to be able to make that choice.
Delete the VANG WELLESLEY ADM security from your file security list (Ctrl-Y). Then from the transaction list for that account, Gear icon, upper right, Reconcile Shares. You should get the option to match rather than the Rename option.

@q_lurker, did that. Thanks for the tip. Now we'll see whether things match at the end of the month when another transaction is downloaded.
