In all my accounts at RBC, the on-line balance displayed in the Quicken screen differs from the on-line balance in the QFX file that I downloaded most recently. Shouldn't they be the same? Doesn't Quicken pull the on-line balance from the QFX file? Here is one example (an RBC Visa card). Perhaps I am misunderstanding your suggestion, but I don't see what role RBC would have in this discrepancy. The discrepancy is between the balance according to the QFX file, which is sitting on my hard drive, and the on-line balance according to Quicken, which just imported the QFX file. I would contact RBC if I thought the QFX file has an error in it, but that is not the substance of my inquiry.

Oh, I'm sorry I did misunderstand what you posted. You are correct this seems like a Quicken bug.

EDIT: Note that the online balance in Quicken should be the same as that LEDGERBAL in the QFX file (Quicken ignores the AVAILBAL). So, I don't know what is going on here. I did a test importing a QFX file into Quicken Windows US and it is doing the right thing:

Now, I am not saying that Quicken is not mistakenly handling this since they are not using the <BALAMT> in the <LEDGERBAL> section for online balance, but RBC is not without error.

RBC seems to be showing the same balance in both the <LEDGERBAL> and <AVAILBAL> sections and it would be a rare occurrence that they would be the same. One is the balance owed, the other is the balance of remaining credit available for the credit card account.

I spot-checked several of my QFX files going more than two years from RBC, and in every case, the ledger balance and available balance are identical numbers for all accounts, both credit card and deposit accounts. Are you saying that this is incorrect behaviour?

Both my Chase and CapOne credit card accounts have the ledger balance and the available balance different and they agree with what is shown on the respective websites for current balance and available credit limit balance.

IMO, RBC is posting one or the other incorrectly, but since I don't have an RBC account I can't look into it, but check the website yourself and see which balance they are reporting in those fields. It would be interesting to know.

The available balance number is incorrect. The only reason this hasn't come up as wrong before is because Quicken ignores that field.

The only way that you could have a negative available balance in your credit card account is if you overpaid on your credit card balance.

And clearly you wouldn't owe 2421.01, your credit card company owed you 2421.01.
