Why were all of my Quicken Classic backups deleted???
Just went to open Quicken, build R58.9, and the open screen was as though I was just starting up my account.. when I looked to open my last backup, I only found some from the start of the year. I MANUALLY backup every time, in two locations on my computer when I work in my Quicken accounts, especially after downloading bank or CC activity. [Removed - Language] I looked online for help and saw messages regarding other users having similar issues. I eventually found the message about Quicken deleting backups and sure enough there were all my backups in the recycle bin! How do the prevent this from happening again? I've changed my preferences from 5 backups to the max 99. Do I have to go back to using USB memory stick?? What gives Quicken??

So it deleted your MANUAL backups from BOTH locations? Is one of your manual backups in the same directory (folder) as the automatic ones? You can only set the maximum backups on the auto.
I put my manual backups on my NAS, auto backups stay on my local drive.
My auto backups are working fine (2x, max=20). I don't get the reminder for the manual backups as noted in several other threads.

Greetings and thanks for the input. I have one backup folder in the Desktop folder, and the 2nd is on 2nd drive , a date storage drive, separate not C. I'm guessing the auto backups are located somewhere on C as well. Mystified how the both locations were deleted...I created a clean folder in the two locations , as well dug out a USB to have an off computer backup...

The default auto backup location is in Documents/Quicken/backup (Windows). You can set this in Edit/Preferences/Backup. For the Auto backup settings, click the the "OPEN" link to see where they are. You can click on the "CHANGE" link to designate another location.

There are 2 kinds of Backups in Quicken, Manual and Automatic. For Manual Backups you can tell it where to put the backup file and if you want to add the current date to the end of the name or to overwrite any existing backup file. If you add the date to the end of the name over time you will end up with a lot of files.
In addition to any manual backups you make, Quicken makes an automatic backup after so many times (which you can set). Quicken makes all automatic backups to a folder named "BACKUP" in the same folder where your Quicken data resides. So if you have data files in separate folders then each folder will have a separate Backup subfolder.
Your data is kept in a file ending in .qdf. So look for files that might have .qdf or .qdf-backup in them. Starting with the 2010 version they added "-backup" to the file extension.I'm staying on Quicken 2013 Premier for Windows.

If you are having difficulty finding your backup files go to File > Find Quicken Files. You can then select the drive you want to search in and Quicken will quickly find all of the Quicken data files, including backup files, and show you where they are located.
