How to export subset from one data file and import to another

Hi All,

I've been using Quicken since 1991 and used to perform the recommended year-end archive process to split prior years into separate data files. I would now like to combine these files into an archive file that I can run reports on.

There doesn't appear to be a way to do a simple export/import to move transactions to another data file. Quicken support said it could not be done. QFX files export everything in the file, but I need to be able to select all transactions for a year to export as there are some overlaps in the separate files. I do not need the opening balances and memorized transactions…just the detail that was posted.

If anyone knows how to accomplish this, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks,

Andy

You better be ready to do a lot of work, what you want to do is not an easy task.

See this old thread on how to merge data files:

IMO, splitting/archiving parts of your data file using Year-End-copy is a real mistake since diskettes were generally phased out as backup storage. Unless you are day trading and generate a large number of transactions, there is no need to do a YEC. My data file goes back to 1996 when I stopped using diskettes and having all of my data in one file is a great benefit when running reports.

I am coming to realize that splitting the file is a bad idea, but it was recommended at the time. Just trying to figure out how to recover.
