Security Type: add ETF

ETF's are currently described as Type: Stock; Market: various. Morningstar ratings are not available. Those ratings are available if a security is changed to type: Mutual Fund. Though similar, ETF's are not mutual funds and should not be reflected as such. With the proliferation and popularity of ETF's, it's time that Quicken add a security type: ETF, and provide Morningstar ratings for them. Yes, a user can create a Security Type: ETF, but that alone will not provide Morningstar ratings, which appear to be limited to mutual funds. A new, separate type is sorely in need.

I agree. I've been classifying my ETFs as MFs in order to see the Morningstar data.

I posted this idea some four years ago. Rather than create a new type, I saw it as just as the need to present the Morningstar data with fewer restrictions.

Yep, I voted for that one. Under that scheme, a user-defined ETF type should show MStar data, right?

It works to classify ETFs as MFs, but it would be more accurate to present the correct security type. The one hitch is that ETFs can't use average cost like MFs can. Otherwise, simply cloning the MF type into ETF would be OK with me and probably pretty easy to implement.

As I saw it four years ago, the Morningstar data gets downloaded based on the ticker, independent of the security type. Under my idea, the data would be presented independent of security type. So yes, under that idea, a user defined ETF would show MStar data, as would securities with type ETF-FI, or ETF-EM, or any other type a user might choose to create.
