Quicken for Mac data file location
I have to recover my brothers Quicken for Mac and convert it so I can use it on my Quicken Classic for Windows. I've never used a Mac and my brother is, shall we say, not computer savvy.
- How do I find the data file and what is it called?
- How do I convert it to Quicken for Windows.
- Would I make a backup of the data file and restore it in Windows or just copy the data file and convert it in Window?
Thank you for your help!
John

If you have the file open in Quicken Mac you can select "Show <file name> in Finder" from the File menu and it will open a Finder window for that directory.
The default location for Quicken data files is /Users/<your brother's user name>/Library/Application Support/Quicken/Documents. The Library folder is hidden by default; if you can't see it in the Finder then select the "Go" menu and hold down the Option key on the keyboard and Library should be in the list of folders on the dropdown menu.
Here are the instructions for converting from Quicken Mac to Quicken Windows.

From what I recall reading, the QMac to QWin conversion process is so flawed as to basically be useless. (Could be old information.) Best of luck.

It used to be broken but sometime in the past year, I believe I read that the Quicken Windows developers added/fixed the conversion of investment accounts so that the Mac-to-Windows conversion should now work. As a Mac user, I don't read the Windows sections of the forum, so I haven't read anecdotal reports one way or the other.
