why does ctrl-B delete index changes
This is the before and after, the index changes are in place then after using ctrl-B the index changes have vanished. I'm using Quicken Deluxe build 27.1.58.14 and Win11

I agree this is a bug and I wish Quicken would fix it.
But please note that in my experience the data is not deleted, it is just not displayed when it should be.
When you see missing data for a date that has quote data for the indexes and other securities of interest, please try setting the As of date back by one day and then return to the problem date. If the index data reappears, that would confirm that you same seeing the same problem that I see rather than something different.
Thanks

That appears to be the Price Day Change and Price Day Change (%) columns in an Investing > Portfolio view. Ctrl-B does a backup.
A longstanding Quicken issue is that these columns are sometimes not updated when they should be.
Also the Ctrl-B returns the As of date to today. If you were looking at an earlier date before the backup, the columns will be blanked because the market is closed today (Saturday)
As a workaround, try going to the desired date, setting the As of date back by one day then returning to the desired date. Please let us know if that fixes it for you.

This error also occurs in the middle of the week.
I expect a backup to do exactly one thing - backup without changing a single byte, don't delete data, don't even return an 'as of date'.
Changing the 'as of date' doesn't matter, the data is still deleted.

You are right, backing up an additional date and the data magically reappears. However, after a ctrl-B, the changes are lost. We can only hope that the Quicken programmers are reading these posts.

Forum Moderators sometimes review issues discussed here and refer them to Development, but if you want Quicken to work on a problem, I recommend you contact Support via phone. Be sure the support agent understands the problem and gives you a ticket number for future reference.
You should also use the Help > Report a Problem menu in Quicken to submit the issue online. In your submission, be as clear and thorough as possible. Reference the ticket number and provide a link to this discussion. Provide step by step instructions to reproduce the problem. You will not get a response to an electronic submission, but they say they review and prioritize the submissions.
This issue was given no. CTP-346 in July of 2019 but was never resolved.
