Quicken doesn't open - goes straight to "Let's Get Started"

I can't open my Quicken file. The app sends me to the "Let's Get Started" box. I try to 'recover' the file. Same result. Online technician says to 'recover' the immediately prior-dated file. That worked last time, but I lost all of the work I'd saved in the most recent, inaccessible file, which is obviously not an acceptable solution (though it satisfied the technician). This is a serious matter. What to do? ☹️

Sometimes, particularly after an update, Quicken's preferences file doesn't record the pathname to the file you've been using, resulting in the Let's Get Started screen.

If you can locate your most recent data file on you hard drive, you can make Quicken open with that file simply by double-clicking it. Or, on the Let's Get Started page, click the Open Quicken File button at the bottom of that screen and navigate to the file. But you said the most recent file is "inaccessible". Is that because you didn't know where to find it, or because it is missing or damaged?

(Note that recovering from a backup file as you've done is using a .quickenbackup file; I'm talking about locating and opening your most recent .quicken data file.)
