Fidelity Credit Card Positive Balance

Hello,

I know this issue was discussed earlier this summer but now that thread seems to be closed. I have Quicken R58.14 on Windows 10. I changed my Fidelity CC from Elan to Fidelity Investments & Retirement as boatnmaniac's suggestion to avoid having 2FA every time I update Quicken. That is no longer an issue but I now have the Online Balance reported as a positive number, the equal value to my correct value in the register.

I prefer not to need to 2FA every time I update from the same computer, but I should be able to reconcile without a huge adjustment.

Thanks very much for any updates!

    Good morning all,

This continues to be a problem for me. Does anyone else still have the Fidelity Credit Card Online Balance reported as a positive number in black at the bottom of the register. Other CCs show the online balance as a negative number in red. When I reconcile, I am off by the exact amount of the balance, so that if my actual register ending balance was -100, the "statement" balance would be +100 and the difference would be 200.

I can work around by letting Q enter an adjustment for the 200, then delete the reconciled adjustment so my transactions are all Reconciled, but the discrepancy continues. It's as if either Fidelity or Quicken is reporting the credit card balance as an absolute number, not a negative number.

    Thanks!

@Boatnmaniac Thank you for your suggestion in another thread to use Fidelity Investments & Retirement Accounts as the FI to get my Elan Credit Card transactions downloaded into Quicken without 2FA every time. It works perfectly except that I get a positive (black) number as the Online Balance when I actually have a credit balance which should be negative (red). It is the correct absolute value but positive rather than negative which Quicken treats as an asset rather than a liability, and reconciling is off by the corresponding amount. Transactions download as Charges which increase my negative (red) register balance as they should.

Have you seen this issue? Quicken support said that they consider the number from the FI to be correct and that Quicken is working correctly.

    Thanks for any insight!

The Fidelity - Investements & Retirement Accounts was a solid and reliable download connection method for the Fidelity Rewards Visa card starting Feb/Mar and was a welcome relief to the many Elan Financial Services download connection issues.

However, starting 6/26 this Fidelity download method developed some very serious download and reliability issues. It seems now that the missing transactions issue has been resolved but the Online Balance having the incorrect positive number has been an ongoing issue.

Back in July I believe most users deactivated the Fidelity connection and set up downloads, again, with Elan (I am one of those that did this). Some even reported that Fidelity folks were telling them not to use the Fidelity - Investements & Retirement Accounts connection setup since they were having problems with downloading not only the credit card but also with downloading investment accounts. There was a lot of concern expressed about going back to the Elan connection but, as is evidenced by the lack of problem posts about Elan in this forum over the last nearly 3 months, Elan has been working quite well….and the Online Balance is correct which allows for reconciling to the online balance.

A few said they were going to stay connected with Fidelity - Investements & Retirement Accounts because the transactions are downloading correctly. They said they preferred to manually reconcile their accounts so they were not bothered by the positive Online Balance. That is a personal choice but not one that I would be willing to put up with for long.

Unfortunately, we have no updates from Fidelity about when they will have their download issues resolved. So, if you wish to reconcile to the Online Balance then you should probably set up your connection with Elan, again.

Thanks very much for the explanation. FWIW, I use plain vanilla Fidelity Investments for my investment accounts, and am only using Fidelity - Investments & Retirement Accounts, which is somewhat hidden in the list of FIs, for the Fidelity credit card transactions. I think I will be able to deal with the positive balance more easily than having my scheduled OSU interrupted by a 2FA request from Elan, and hope for a correction of the balance issue by Fidelity. I haven't noticed any transaction download issues, only the positive balance.

Thanks again for your excellent clarification!

In my main data files: I, too, use Fidelity Investments for my investment accounts. I use Elan for the Visa card account….I do not get 2FA requests but I do not know why I do not but you do.

In a couple of test files: I use Fidelity - Investments & Retirement Accounts for both the Visa Card and for investment accounts, mainly to track any progress Fidelity might be making toward resolution of the issues with it. I, too, have noticed that Visa card transactions have been downloading without issue….just that dang positive Online Balance that prevents reconciling to the online balance. I also use this connection here to better understand the Simple Tracking of investment account.

I'm glad you now have a solution that is working well for you.
