One Step Update - download date range (edit) - Continued

My old post and discussion thread is long closed and not sure how to link it to this thread. It concerned establishing OSU for long standing accounts that had always been handled manually. No matter what I tried, the balances and accounts blew up on me and I always ended up going back to handling it manually. Today, I tried it again. And this is what I discovered my entire problem was! And maybe this is self-evident to others, but this is exactly the reason I could never get the download process to balance and work correctly for these old old bank accounts (and yes, they are still active accounts).

When Quicken does an OSU for a long-standing account, in addition to downloading up to 700+ days of activity that you need to sort through and either match or delete, it also downloads and buries a beginning balance! It was this beginning balance that kept everything from not working correctly. I discovered this by subtracting the new downloaded balance from the balance I had immediately prior to the OSU. I then did a search and lo and behold there was the exact number I was out of balance by. Deleted that entry and everything worked fine! Yay! So, after years of picking this up and putting it down in frustration. I finally figured it out.

Hope this tidbit of insight can help someone else. And I hope this continues to work for me in the future and something else doesn't blow up the next time I perform an OSU for these accounts.

IF your bank permits such, you can frequently select the date range of a download when the download is initiated from the bank's website.

like a .qif or .qxf file? Yeah, didn't like those. But definitely an option.

It would be a QFX (i.e., Web Connect) file. Try it once. That sometimes "shakes loose" the cobwebs.
