Feature Request: Show Actual Return in investment performance reports

Windows Classic version

In the Investment Performance reports, please add a column for "Actual Return". Yes, I know this can be simulated by selecting Date Range: Yearly and Current Year, but this is still very much not accurate, especially for securities purchased after the year started or for securities that have dividends. For example, take my Intel investment, purchased in August 2024, as an example:

Investments: $14,999.98

Returns: $16,928.86

Ave Annual Return (according to Quicken): 35.35%

Actual return (according to math): 12.86%

The math is simple: (returns / investments) -1

I cannot image anyone finding the IRR returns valuable. In fact, I would think it's the opposite of value and causes more confusion than anything else. A simple, actual return is programmatically easy to implement and it's what we investors want. Please Quicken, why can't you implement this?

Also, PLEASE add a Symbol column into the report! Sheesh, basic stuff.

Does Mac Quicken have the symbol in the report, or the actual return? I would switch to Mac for Quicken if the Investment Performance report was usable.

Many thanks,

Allan

That would be a nice improvement, especially because the YTD numbers are not very useful.

In the meantime, have you tried the ROI (%) columns in the Investing > Portfolio views? That sounds like it may be what you are looking for.

Note this is total return, not annualized. it is based on your initial investment or value at the start of the period, and may not be accurate if you have made partial sales.

    agree with Allen

on this report - my assumption is this does not include income (dividends, interest) as part of the return- correct?

No. If the income transactions are being paid to you as cash and not being listed, they are not being listed because the Cash is included as part of the beginning and ending balance values. If the income transactions are reinvested, their effect is also included in those beginning and ending values.
