Freeze Hang when closing (mac)
this has been the case since the last update so I've been dealing with it thinking a new one would be along shortly.
Problem: quitting quicken causes it to freeze and hang indefinitely on the "updating latest transactions" pop up window before it is supposed to close out. It never quits and this hang makes it so I can't open or use any other programs so I have to use a force quit. luckily all the transaction info i entered seems to be intact when i reopen. it's just a huge pain that no one should have to deal with. any fixes or tips for subverting this issue? Q is on version 7.9.1 / using a 2017 macbook pro w/ OSX ventura.

Could you post a screen shot of the message which pops up? I've never heard of this, and since Quicken saves each transaction when you enter it, I'm puzzled what transactions it would need to be updating upon quitting. I'm wondering if you have Quicken Cloud (mobile app/web interface) enabled, and this is a syncing problem?

unbelievable.. . i just closed it and it shut down fine. this is the first time it's quit without me force quitting in weeks, maybe even over a month. It's happened so many times that i stopped doing the report problem to apple thing that comes always comes up. if it happens again I will definitely be grabbing a screen shot. thanks for getting back so quickly.

Isn't that always the way things happen… 🤣
Well, hopefully whatever was messed up has now resolved itself and you won't see it again.

It hung up again this morning. Attached a screen shot of the message. This was the first time I opened Q since my last message. Not sure what's different now compared to then when It was closing fine. I went ahead and sent the error report to apple. wondering now if I should have copied the code to paste in here…

Hmmm, so it's hanging trying to make your backup file. That seems odd; I haven't read reports of other users having such a problem. You're running macOS Ventura, which shouldn't be a problem with these versions of Quicken Mac.
The first question I have is where the location your backup folder is.
Next, I'm wondering if you use the Quicken mobile app or web interface, and if not, whether you have turned off Syncing in Quicken Settings. I don't have Syncing on, but I'm wondering if it's failing trying to sync something as it closes your file.

Syncing is On and i am using the desktop app. not though a browser. I do have the app on my phone but never use it. it's too clunky for me. prob haven't opened it in a year. just went under 'settings' to find out where it was backing up to on my mac and this also hung up the program. I couldn't screen shot it while in Quicken, since it's frozen, but the beach ball is actually still spinning as i type even though it's not in the picture. I clicked the "backup folder" button and this is what stopped everything. is there any basic Cache folders I should delete? this has worked in other programs that have had similar problems.

omg it came out of it. must have been stuck for 3-5mins… as soon as i hit send the pop up window showing folder backup location just appeared. this is the path: /Users/mp2010/Library/Application Support/Quicken/Backups

@ericbettencourt Well, that is the default location for backups, and it shows that it isn't in a cloud storage location. So the mystery continues… Let's try some things to see if we can make the problem go away.
(1) Try signing out and signing back in to your Quicken account. So in Quicken, pull down the left-most Quicken menu, and select "Sign Out…". Then select "Sign In" and enter your Quicken ID and password. This will refresh the token Quicken uses to track your membership. I wouldn't think that's the culprit here, but it can't hurt, and it sometimes cures odd problems. Try quitting Quicken and see if it still hangs. If yes…
(2) I don't know if this has anything to do with Quicken trying to sync to its cloud storage upon quitting, but since you said you don't use the web interface or mobile app, we can try to eliminate that as as possible culprit by disabling syncing. Go to Settings > Mobile, Web & Alerts and set Sync to OFF. Then go to Settings > Connected Services and click the Reset button under Cloud Account. This will eliminate any existing synced data, and prevent syncing from occurring. Try quitting Quicken and see if it still hangs. If yes…
(3) In the Settings > Backup screen, try changing the number of backup files it keeps. You can change it to "Keep: all files" temporarily. This should eliminate a possible problem Quicken is having figuring out or actually deleting your oldest backup file each time. Close the Settings window, then quit Quicken. Does it still hang? If yes…
(4) Go back to the Settings > Backup screen, click Backup folder, wait for it to resolve, then then try changing the backup location (temporarily) to somewhere like your Desktop or a folder inside your User (home) folder. Close the Settings window and quit Quicken. Does it still hang? If yes…
(5) I would think steps 3 and 4 above would have re-written settings to Quicken's preferences file, but we can try the nuclear option of creating a new preferences file, since the location of the backup folder and a bunch of other settings are stored in this obscure file. It isn't intended that users would ever need to interact with this file, but sometimes clearing it resolves odd problems. So… quit Quicken. Navigate to /Users/mp2010/Library/Preferences. Scroll down and find the file "com.quicken.Quicken.plist". Drag this file to your Desktop. (This is so you can put it back if it doesn't solve the problem.) Now launch Quicken. The application will create a new .plist file in the same location. Try going to Settings > Backup and click the "Backup Folder" button. Does it hang, as it did before? If you can, verify the location is /Users/mp2010/Library/Application Support/Quicken/Backups, or set it to that path if it isn't. Close the Settings window. Try quitting Quicken. Does it quit cleanly or not? If not, we know the .plist file isn't the culprit; with Quicken not running you can drag the original .plist file now on your desktop back to the Library/Preferences folder, so the older .plist file will replace the newer one Quicken just created. On the other hand, if generating a new .plist file resolved the problem, then you can keep it, but you'll need to go through your preferences to reset them the way you want/had them before.
(6) Is your file password protected? Try changing the password to something simple like "dog", or removing it, temporarily.
I'm thinking you will have solved the problem with one of these actions. If not, I'm really puzzled. Report back if any of these steps appeared to make any changes in what you're seeing, or if it just continues to hang every time you quit or access the backup location.
