Ummmm… How does one link real estate to Zillow via account setting? I'm not seeing anything for Zillow anywhere beyond the splash screen when the update was pushed.

Same question here. No clear way to link an existing property to Zillow in Quicken for Mac.

@Randinga @Nick_Quick First you have to create an offline account for the house value, then you can link it to Zillow. The account type has to be "Asset - Real Estate" to get the Zillow option on the Downloads tab. If you've been tracking your house value in some other type of account you'll have to change the account type or create a new account.

Find it a bit off-putting that Quicken is now trying to charge an additional fee ($1.99/month) for a more thought-out backup system for data files. Since a copy of my data is already being stored on their servers when I do a sync, seems like a better iteration of that should be included as part of the ever-increasing annual subscription price. Was instead hoping for a real-time sync (like Google Docs) that allows a seamless experience between the desktop app, web, and the mobile app.

@Mike_NYC Not really; it's apples and oranges. Sync stores a portion of your data in Quicken's cloud, but it's not a complete copy of your data. You can't create a local data file from what's stored in Quicken cloud. It's also only the most recent snapshot of your data, not an archive of your data at multiple points in the past.

The new online backup service does the same thing as the current local backups which are generated when you quit Quicken. But by storing the backup files online, it can give you some protection should your computer die or be stolen.

That said, I find the $2/month fee rather high for this limited 10 online backups of a Quicken data file; perhaps at half that price, it might be a reasonable small add-on to a Quicken subscription. On the flip side, this is an option, so users who don't want/need the service can just ignore it. That's certainly better than raising the subscription price by $2/month to add this for everyone.

I think users are better advised to back up all their data, using such tools as Apple's included Time Machine software, and/or cloud backup services like iDrive or Backblaze. Those online services cost more than Quicken Online Backup, but they protect all the data on your Mac, from email to pictures to music and everything else you store on your Mac.

I upgraded to Mac 7.10 and now I can't open my data file. It backs up the file and attempts to upgrade the database, but then it says it can't open the file created by Quicken 7.9.1 (Build 709.54540.100).

I'm not seeing the Downloads tab on my Asset - Real Estate either to connect with Zillow. I even tried creating the account from new following the steps above, no dice.

Although the release notes do not indicate this, the "What's New in Quicken" window shows that the Zillow account feature is only available in the Premier and Business & Personal versions. If, like me, you are using the Deluxe version, this feature is not included.

If you ask me, a pretty lousy business practice to broadly tout a new feature, offer it only in selected products, and then obfuscate the facts. Not a good way to spread excitement for the product. I too am on the Deluxe version, and had to track down this thread to find out why I couldn't find it in my software. Quicken—you can do better.

The good news is, they continue to improve the Mac version. I am not so sure even if the Windows version has capital gains tax estimator. At least I dont recall seeing one before I migrated to Mac version.

Whereas I think they definitely need to make it clearer of what is in Premier and such, I absolutely agree with their policy not to put this feature in Deluxe.

First off, that is exact the same as in Quicken Windows. Second, the whole point of "Premier" is to have features that justify the extra price. In my opinion, Quicken Mac Premier has long lacked enough features to justify the extra price and it the right thing to do to fill in the feature "Premier feature set" to make this right.

Three quick comments on the Zillow integration feature being available only to Premier subscribers, not Deluxe:

(1) As @Chris_QPW notes, this feature existing only for Premier users is the way it has long existed for Quicken Windows. So on that basis, it makes sense that adding this catch-up feature for Quicken Mac would follow at the same level.

(2) But the distinction of which features are Premier-only and which are available to Deluxe users is puzzling. For example, the new Capital Gains Estimator tool is an advanced investing feature, so I would expect it to require Premier — but it's available for Deluxe users as well. But I believe in Quicken Windows, this feature requires Premier. So there goes the rationale of cross-platform consistency!

(3) I absolutely agree that the release notes should be clear which features require Premier, rather than touting a new feature, forcing customers to look for it in vain, and then be upset to find they can't access it.

If all you read is the Quicken website for purchase information you would get the impression that Premier is the "investment" edition, but that isn't entirely true. I'm sure it is just a fluke of the way things developed over time, and they just couldn't pull features out that they already had in a given edition, but Window Deluxe has "most" of the "basic investment/tax features", whereas Premier has "extra investment/tax features". And then since Quicken Inc took over Premier is the target for the "new features" like Zillow support.

@Chris_QPW Thanks for that clarification. I had looked on Quicken's old comparison chart (which is still bugs me that they eliminated from the website!), and it indicated the Capital Gains Estimator was a Quicken Windows Premium-only feature not available for Deluxe:

(It was grouped under the "Investment" section of features.)

@jacobs Yep, we were complaining about that kind of things for years, where the website didn't reflect reality. So, what did they eventually do? Remove basically all the information so that you can't properly judge what edition you need (even less than before).

On the Capital Gains Estimator, it would be helpful if the securities could be grouped/filtered by account. If I have a certain mutual fund in a number of different accounts and I choose to sell out of one account, finding the particular transactions that are being sold (using the first in first out rule which generally applies) in the current list which includes all accounts is very difficult. I'd also like the security's symbol displayed for ease of finding securities as often the names change, but the symbols almost never do. It is easier to confirm I'm looking at the right security if sorted by symbol.

…but its position in that category depends on whether you "dismissed" prior pinned announcements. Unfortunately this is one of those not intuitive "features" of the software vendor Quicken is using to run this site, so let me explain. When they post announcements, they are normally pinned to the top so they don't drop down the list when newer posts are made. If you never do anything to those announcement posts, they accumulate because there are multiple pinned topics. For instance, this is what my screen looked like originally:

The 7.10 announcement was pinned to the top, but so were some of the older release announcements, so 7.10 showed up 4th for me. If you've never unpinned anything, it could be way, way down the list for you.

How do you unpin topics which have been pinned" Look of the icon of ••• in a circle at the upper right. Click it and serif the drop-down menu shows "Dismiss".

In the parlance of this site's software, "dismiss" is what I mean by "unpin". Select "Dismiss", reload the page, and you'll see that the topic which was at the top has now dropped down into the list, below pinned topics, in the order of the most recent posts to each thread. You may have to "Dismiss" a bunch of announcements until you get to the point that the 7.10 announcement is at the top, like you see in my first screenshot above.
