Merrill download account mix up.

When transactions occur to my IRA account to The Real Estate Select SPDR Fund (XLRE) they are downloaded to Quicken as a transaction to Real Estate Securities SEP account (RE102). This has been happening for years, but the number of transactions is small, and I have learned that when my shares in Quicken don't match my Merrill shares that is the first place to look. Do you think this is something I can correct or is it a Merrill or Quicken issue?

It's possible it's just mismatched. The first time a downloaded transaction references a previously-unknown security, Quicken will ask if it should create a new security or match it to an existing one. The existing one it recommends is often a poor choice (often a similarly named one), and some folks probably just click through the prompt and use what Quicken recommends. To clear the match:

    1. From the portfolio tab, find the mismatched security in question and click on it.
    2. The Security Detail View window opens. Click the button "Edit Details" in the middle left of the window.
    3. The Edit Security Details window opens. Uncheck the check box "Matched with Online Security".

The next time that security is referenced in a download, you'll get the dialog mentioned above asking how to match it or create a new security.

The process described by @jtemplin will correct downloads going forward, but to correct previous incorrect entries, you must change any incorrect security names.

    1. Back up your data in case something goes wrong.
    2. Go to Edit > Preferences > Keyboard mappings and select Windows standard if it is not already selected
    3. Click on the Security header in the account’s Transaction List (Register) to sort them by name.
    4. Correct one of the incorrect names, then highlight the corrected name and hit Ctrl-C
    5. Save the edited transaction.
    6. Select the name of the next affected transaction to highlight it and hit Ctrl-V
    7. Repeat steps 4-6 for the remaining incorrect transactions.

Thank you for the reply. I am assuming in step 1 you were referring to XLRE. When I open Edit Security Details the "Matched with Online Security" box is greyed out and unchecked. I cannot do anything with it.

Do I need to wait until I get another transaction download from RE102 (I edited or created a new transaction and deleted the others) and then go through the process with it?
