I wanted to upate my Credit Union accounts in the afternoon, but it would not update. I found a community answer that did not help. Hower —-

I see that "Express Web Connect updates nightly" (automatically). Does this mean that an Express Web Connect account cannot be updated during the business day, or immediately after the banking business day ends?

You can run OSU to update your accounts as often as you wish, You should connect OK, but would say "Account Updated, 0 new transactions".

In your case, it should have gotten transactions from the day(s) before assuming there were new ones. Are you getting an error?

I don't know when Quicken runs the updates. I generally run mine in the early AM (while checking email and such) so it gets all posted/pending transactions from the day before.

The EWC connections have their information retrieved and stored on the aggregator's server during nightly runs for later pickup by you using Quicken.

The EWC aggregation only happens once every 24 hours, so at best you will get yesterday's transactions, not today's transactions.

    - Subscription Quicken - Win11 and QW2013 - Win11

The answers are understood and make sense.
It would be helpful if Quicken were to make the the fact that "Express Web Connect updates [automatically] nightly" more prominent in the description of EWC — and that manually initiated updates do not pick up more current (i.e. today's) transactions.

Actually, the situation is more complicated than this, because it depends on the financial institution.

"Officially" it is stated that Express Web Connect does the update once a night, but these days (and for a very long time) might be better stated as "The server will do the update even if the user hasn't run One Step Update once a night".

Some financial institutions can even be close to "real time". I have had financial institutions that fall into this category, and it is very evident when a financial institution is using multiple factor authorization that Quicken/Intuit can't or doesn't store (the authorization is asked for when the user runs One Step Update).

Note there are multiple factors in this that determine how up to date the data is.

    1. Whether the financial institution is actually providing the up-to-date data. Some might tie this directly into their website, where others might tie into a backend system, and yet others might tie it into a copy that they update once a day.
    2. Quicken Inc pays Intuit for the connection service. Intuit works out an agreement with the financial institution (or sometimes with the provider of the financial institution's web services). Part of that agreement might be to restrict when and how often to actually query for new information.
    3. The flow of data to Quicken goes through Quicken Inc's servers (the Quicken Cloud) and I have seen that it will cache such request and not do real full checks every time. I think it is something on the order of an hour or more that it will not really get new transactions.
