Quicken Locks up on Tax Planner: Business Income: Other Allowable Expenses

I am using Quicken Classic Business and Personal (R59.18) on Windows 11 Pro. This problem has been going on for a long time, but it hasn't really been a problem for me until now (tax season). I have had Quicken installed on two separate laptops and the issue occurs with both. When I go to Planning → Tax Planner and navigate to "Business Income", I run into issues where Quicken completely freezes, specifically "Other Allowable Expenses" for SELF. If I click in the box for the dollar amount or click on the underlined Other Allowable Expenses, Quicken becomes completely unresponsive. It can't be closed without Task Manager (no top X, no right click task bar/close window), it can't be be toggled to (Alt+tab).

The first thing I would do would be to back up your data file in case something goes wrong, then go the File >Validate and repair file, check the Validate file box, and click OK.

Please let us know if that fixes it for you.

Hello, thanks for the suggestion. I have validated the file and there were a few errors, all of which have been fixed. The error still persists, although it might be acting differently (I am unsure). If the "Show Details" is not checked, I can click in and change the amount of Other Allowable Expenses without issue. The behavior specifically happens when Quicken tries to show the details, either by expanding the details or clicking on the underlined Other Allowable Expenses. It only does it for "Self" and not for "Spouse", although there are no expenses associated with Spouse.

Quicken uses an internal web browser to display the Tax Planner and sometimes the browser's cache can get corrupted.

You could try exiting Quicken and renaming the C:\ProgramData\Quicken\Cache folder and then restarting to see if that fixes the problem. If the folder is missing, Quicken will create a clean one.

The ProgramData folder is normally hidden. To make it visible in Windows Explorer in Windows 11, click on View at the top of the Windows Explorer window and then select Show and Hidden items.

Please let us know if that fixes it for you.
