Alternatives to Validate and Repair
My quicken for Windows starting locking up (and pegging one of my CPUs) on startup. So, I started a full repair protocol of uninstalling Quicken, renaming my file, rebooting, reinstalling Quicken, and attempting a Validate and Repair on the old file. It has been pegging one of my CPUs for two days. What are my alternatives?

It sounds to me like your data file is hopelessly corrupted. Which would mean that restoring from a backup is your only choice.

Is the data file size growing while the CPU is pegged?

Sounds like you have a runaway reminder that is stuck adding a transaction again and again.
Set your computers date back a week or so in the past and then try starting Quicken.

The file I am validating is still the same size as my copy. Not that it matters. If it is bad, it is bad. Time to restore a backup!!! Thanks, all.

@actually, try @splasher's comment before you restore the backup. Low odds of that being the issue, but less trauma-filled than restoring the backup (and needing to redo everything since the backup).
