category "`"?

I have a bunch of transactions with the wrong categories. I'm trying to fix it, but every time I try rather than letting me set the category i get a popup that asks "do you want to create a new category with the name '`'?

What's causing that and how can I fix it??

    HOW are you trying to fix it? Can you do a "Find all" (perhaps by payee) and do mass changes of the category via that route?

    It might take a number of such Find All searches … but that's gotta be faster than one-by-one.

    Just take frequent backups when doing such mass changes … just in case.

    I figured it out. Apparently, some time in the [recent] past I typed an accent grave into a category box and it lurked there until I went to add a new category. I managed to find it, delete the accent and it was working just right again.
