One of my accounts is showing the wrong balance. What happened?
For the first time in 20+ years of using Quicken for Mac, one of my account registers is missing a huge amount of $$$ in the register. This just happened in the last 20 days. On Oct 31, the account reconciled, but the other day, something was terribly wrong. I started the Life Hub subscription, then changed my mind. I'm wondering if this has something to do with the balance going haywire. Regardless, I would like to see the account balance corrected before I have to manually make a Balance Adjustment. I am using Quicken for Mac Classic Premier 7.10.1, and my Mac OS is 15.1.1. Thank you.

Is the end of October balance still correct in the register? If not, then try going farther back in time, maybe to the beginning of this year, and compare the register to the statement balance. You should be able to narrow it down to a particular month that things started to go wrong & then look for either incorrect or missing transactions.

In answer to all your questions… I went back 5 years, and the exact amount is missing all way through. I don't have the manual check registers beyond the 5 years. But don't you think it's odd that the exact amount is missing? I'm talking 5 digits. Something in the last update or that Life Hub did something. I will continue to go through the register back to the very beginning to see if I can find the error. And it wasn't my error. Also, I do not download transactions from the bank. I enter everything manually.

Something in the last update or that Life Hub did something.
It's unlikely to be an issue with an update, because there hasn't been a software update in the past few days when you started seeing this problem.
It's unlikely that LifeHub caused the problem, because I believe LifeHub can only import information from Quicken Classic, but can't alter information in your data file.
It sounds like either a placeholder transaction was added, or a transaction(s) was/were deleted. It could be some internal Quicken error; it could be something you inadvertently did. (I know you said it wasn't your error, and I'm not saying you're wrong; I'm only saying I've seen many times where users were certain they hadn't done something that later turned out to be something they had unknowingly done.)
Going back to the beginning of your register is a good place to look next, if all your prior 5 years of reconciliations are off by the same amount. Look to see if there's a new opening balance or placeholder transaction.
Next, you'll probably want to open one of your backup files, so you can switch back and forth with your current file to see where the discrepancy occurs in your account. You should be able to select a backup from several weeks ago, before this began, to compare. Make sure to make a copy or rename your current file first, so you can clearly identify which file is which. (In Quicken, you can then use the File > Open Recent pop-up menu to switch back and forth between your current data file and the restored backup.)

Thank you on the tip of looking in my backup files. I will do this. Thank you again.

Don't know if this has been an issue in Mac, but in the WIN version, Q has been known to change account opening balances, particularly when they have been reset. If that's the issue it would explain why you are seeing the imbalance going 5 yrs back.

I took the advice of jacobs from yesterday and opened last month's backup. Between Nov 1st to Nov 21st, the error occurred. I just finished inputting November, up to today, and all my balances are now correct. I couldn't find the error, as the information in input was the same as the information that was already there. But, regardless, I'm happy that all the numbers are matched. I still think that Life Hub had something to do with what happened. Thank you all who responded.
