Split Transactions Lost

I opened Quicken today, November 26, 2024, and found that all my split transactions since around 2018 were lost. I use Quicken for business and do bookkeeping for my father-in-law. I spend more time fixing Quicken errors by reentering data, recategorizing, filling in missing data, etc., that actually using Quicken to manage finances. If a decent Quicken alternative arrives, I will pay whatever they ask to drop Quicken. If Quicken doesn't get their act together, I'll just manage my finances the old way, using Excel and downloaded statements. I am lucky, however, since my last backup on November 17, 2024, appears to have intact splits. 10 days of data has to be reenter, categorized, split, etc.

I don't think that Quicken any idea of how bugs in Quicken affect its customers. At times, I wish I had never started using Quicken back in 1993 and had found another system. I am tempted at this point to use QuickBooks for my personal expenses. It would be perfect from my business and bookkeeping work. The time spend converting data to the other system would pale in comparison to the time I've spent correcting Quicken errors. As I just finished this sentence, I think that's what I'll do.

Anyway, as I've read on other posts, to stop the damage done by Quicken, I have stopped syncing my data or using the Quicken cloud. Why do I even need this, since I back up my information on the web anyway. I'm done. By the way, I noticed that all discussions concerning lost split transactions have been "closed."

It appears that your data file got corrupted sometime between Nov 17 and Nov 26, likely by syncing with online data. You correctly performed a full recovery by restoring a known-good backup. As Forest Gump proclaimed, "Stuff Happens". However, I would suggest that you perform backups more frequently for just this reason. If you use Quicken daily, back it up daily. I also copy a backup to an air-gapped, offline storage device periodically. [Edited - Language]

Thumbdrives, USB harddrives and cloud storage are all cheap, you need to make backups more often, there is no excuse to losing 10 days of work because you didn't take the time to make a backup.
