how to import cvs data to quicken
Don't know why it took me so long to find the above article about importing CVS data!
There are a number of CLOSED discussions about how to import data from a financial institution that does not download to QIF or QFX format. Since some institutions only load 90 days with the one-step update, manually downloading old transactions from the financial institution in CVS format is the only way to import older transactions. Other discussions talked about converting CVS to QIF that just don't work or are very old and no longer supported
Quicken does not import a CVS file UNLESS it is in MINT compatible format, but was hard to find what that format is.
The article link above provides the Mint format below! It WORKED! It was easy to take the CVS file from the bank, move the columns around to match the format and save as a CVS file. I did NOT use a header row.
Date,
Description,
Original Description (just repeat description),
Amount (absolute, unsigned),
Transfer Type (Debit if original amount is Negative ie Purchase, Credit if positive, ie deposit),
Category (UNKNOWN or categorize in the CVS file before you import to make it easier in Quicken),
Account Name (What you want the account in Quicken to be named - make it different from the one you setup for automatic import)
I let the transactions load into a NEW account in Quicken. So the OLD export transactions are in a different Quicken account than the NEW transactions that are setup in One-Step Update.
Hope this helps anyone trying to load older transactions into Quicken.

I convert CSV and QFX files to QIF format routinely to import the downloaded information into QW2013 all the time using ImportQIF and it works great. You can find it on QuicknPerlWiz's website. It is well documented and he does a great job of supporting this program which he gives away for free.
I also use it for CSV files from Discover for import into subscription Quicken since I don't use the Express Web Connect and Express Web Connect+ download methods. The only downside to importing QIF files into subscription Quicken is that they are automatically entered into the register, renaming rules are not applied and duplicate transactions are not prevented, BUT, ImportQIF will do renaming and duplicate prevention for the transactions that it has processed. All of that is covered on the ImportQIF website. Do not ask for help about ImportQIF here in the forum, it is not the proper place for such questions.
