Downloaded Abbreviated Payee names

Recently, I've heard that Quicken improved the download of Payee names since they understood from the Quicken community that they had become too short and in some cases unrecognizable.

Today, I had an experience that suggests there's more improvement to be made. I downloaded Capital One Visa transactions. The downloaded payee appeared as "Courtyard". When I hit enter a renaming rule suggestion appeared as below. From this you see that:

If the downloaded payee name contains this text:

Courtyard Marriott

and

Payee name downloaded from your financial institution

Courtyard by Marriott 0800

But in the register only "Courtyard" was downloaded. In addition when this renaming rule was suggested I could not modify …contains this text Courtyard Marriott to just Courtyard

Thanks

Q is very literal. Your downloaded txn does NOT contain the phrase "COURTYARD MARRIOTT", it contains "COURTYARD BY MARRIOTT" … which isn't the same thing.

You need to change the rule to look for what's actually being downloaded, not the vernacular (which is what I typically call that hotel also).

I understand your point that Quicken is very literal but I think my point was not clear. The Payee was Courtyard in the downloaded transaction. But the rule said the downloaded payee was Courtyard by Marriott 0800.

I will look for additional examples where the downloaded payee is abbreviated/truncated while Quicken has received a more complete payee as revealed when creating a rule. If the more complete payee name is downloaded into transactions there'd be less need to create rules.

    Thanks for your answer

How did you determine that "The Payee was Courtyard in the downloaded transaction", since your graphic shows the downloaded payee as "Courtyard By Marriott 0800", which isn't the same as "Courtyard Marriott".

It doesn't work as if "payee contains Courtyard AND contains Marriott", it looks for the exact phrase "Courtyard Marriott", which your download doesn't appear to contain.

When I downloaded transactions for my credit card I looked at the payee name in the credit card register as I was adding categories. In the register the payee name was Courtyard and only Courtyard. There were no other words. Then when I created a renaming rule the renaming rule window (see my original post) said the downloaded name was Courtyard by Marriott 0800 but it was not.
