Question about downgrading

(Using Windows 11 on PC)

I'm a freelance writer and also have a paid job; have been using Quicken Home & Business for years, but I'm feeling like I don't really need all the features and I'd be just as happy with Classic Premiere. I don't do any downloading from my bank or investment accounts or use tax forms. I just keep two accounts (Personal and Self-employment) and then use categories to record expenses and income in each category; at the end of the year I create reports to use for tax prep. Can you see any reason why I should stay with Home & Business? And any reason why I need to pay for a subscription, other than the advantage of getting occasional updates? (I've attached a screenshot of my Account List and Category List to clarify.)

Well, you might not need "Business and Personal", as it's now called … but if you let your subscription lapse (rather than subscribing to Premier) about 1/3 of your Q screen will be commandeered by a "nag message" to renew.

If you do downgrade, all of your data will still be available, but the B&P specific features (say, invoicing and Mileage) will be gone and your business specific accounts will be converted to regular Q asset and liability accounts. Business specific reports will also be gone.

When you say that "Business specific reports" will be gone, can you elaborate? I create reports for both my personal deductible expenses, and a separate report for my business expenses and income…but I use the same report format for both. I've pasted a screenshot of a oortion of my businss report from last year.

On Q's "Reports" menu, there's a listing for "Business". That won't exist if you downgrade.

BUT, income and expense reports will still exist and it appears that even though it reflects your business income & Expense, what you've shown is a generic I&E report.

I use Premier for business. Even works in Deluxe. You will just lose the fancier specific built in Business reports but you can get the same info by customizing the regular reports.

I'm staying on Quicken 2013 Premier for Windows.

Thanks so much, both of you! Can I ask one more thing: is it worth it to get an annual subscription? From what I understand, the only difference is that I wouldn't get any program updates, and wouldn't have the ability to download statements from my bank, etc. (which I never do anyway).

If you don't renew a subscription about 25% of your screen will be taken up with a reminder to renew.
