Plaid interrupts One Step update?

My credit union recently implemented MFA. Now when I do a one-step update, the process stops to notify me that my credit union requires a passcode. I contacted the credit union to ask them if there is a way to resolve this. The response I received follows. Is this a quirk on the part of the FCU, Quicken, or working as intended (to interrupt my otherwise convenient updates)?

********************FCU response***********************

I have copied over what information my support team has provided me.

“Plaid is the only aggregator that is supported with MFA because they have worked with us to establish a direct integration for authentication. Most aggregators use a “screen-scrape” technique, which means the member gives their credentials to the aggregator, and they in turn log in to the site as if they are the member, navigate the site, and copy or download needed data. MFA prevents this from working because the aggregator cannot receive and enter the one-time passcode.

To date, no other aggregators are supported once your credit union activates MFA. However, we are happy to work with any aggregator who wishes to take advantage of the same infrastructure as we use for our Plaid integration to establish a secure connection as an alternative to their current screen-scrape technique.”

    Hello @mysticae,

Could you please provide the name of the credit union as well as a screenshot of the passcode prompt you receive so we can take a look? If needed, please refer to this Community FAQ for instructions on how to attach a screenshot. Alternatively, you can also drag and drop screenshots to your response if you are not given the option to add attachments.

Please note, that the passcode prompt is an MFA prompt, unfortunately, we won't get around you being prompted for that each time as this is usually a requirement set by the financial institution.

    Thank you!

    Hi, @Quicken Anja

Thanks for the reply. Before I add further information, I would like to make sure I am clear on our goal. My objection is that I am asked to enter an MFA passcode for the FCU every time I update the account. This means that global one-step updates stall for this entry. I realize I could remove the FCU from one-step and update it separately.

I am not receiving any error message. Am I understanding correctly that the passcode prompt for every update occurrence is something that you will not be able to address? That is my only issue, so don't want to add info if it is not "fixable."

@mysticae thank you for your response!

In that case, then yes. If you are wanting to remove the MFA prompt, unfortunately, that is not something we are able to remove from Quicken on our end as this is a requirement set by the financial institution.

My question was mainly about the "passcode" you mentioned as some financial institutions will set up a "passcode" to use with Direct Connect as an alternate password specifically for using Direct Connect. However, if that is not the case here, and the passcode is an MFA code, then you can disregard providing additional information.

    Thank you!

If the MFA prompt disrupts One Step Update, as a workaround, you can remove Plaid from the One Step Update (OSU) Settings. Then, after OSU has completed, run an "Update Now" from the Plaid account register's Actions gear icon. This should allow you to respond to the MFA prompt and complete the download process.
