Disappearing transactions

I manually enter a transaction but it does not show up in the account where I enter it, although the entry is "remembered" if I enter it again. It shows up in another account if applicable (i.e., payment of a credit card balance from my bank but not in the credit card account where I entered it). It works OK if the entry is in 2024 but not in 2025. After 5 or 10 times, it may work for the date in 2025. This sucks.

Updating to the latest version of quicken made it the same or worse. Some transactions disappeared that I had managed to input.

Does anyone from Quicken care about their product? Fix this or I have to find a product that works for 2025 since 2025 entries do not work.

Could this have any relationship to a recent major update to Windows 11? Happened at the same time. Windows 11 really sucks too.

Make sure your register is sorted by date. If not, the transactions will appear to disappear because they will be sorted to another section of the register.

    Already sorted by date.

This problem only seems to occur when using one particular credit card account, but the transaction does not go anywhere else to another account. It just disappears. The account works fine for the rest of 2024.

What other section of the register? I could not find any other section.

When I search for the transaction, it pops up in the search and then can get saved to the account. Not sure if it will stay there when I log out and back in.

Sorry for the confusing term. "section" in this case would be somewhere in the register that isn't in view at the moment.

For instance, if I sorted by Payee, the transactions with a payee starting with A will be at the top, and if I'm looking at the bottom of the register, I won't see those transactions because they are in the "top section/part" of the register.

Have you made sure that the sorting is by date? (clicking on the Date column sorts it by date, clicking on it again reverses the order of the date sorting).

If the transaction comes up when searching, then it is in the register.

It does sort by date. I checked that, although it is sorting by date. The transaction comes up in the right place sometimes, and then not other times (i.e., when it disappears). When a transaction disappears, I thought that the dollar amount in the account no longer reflected that transaction (because that did seem to happen in the beginning), which would mean that your hypothesis about the transaction being in the wrong place in the register would be incorrect, BUT I tried it again and it did change the dollar amount in the account.

I grant you that this problem makes no logical sense, but it is happening.

I just re-opened Quicken and the 2025 entries remained where I had put them. And I tried a new 2025 entry, and it worked OK. But then I tried it again, and it did not work. It seems that it sometimes this is a problem and sometimes it is not. It definitely is related to 2025 entries vs 2024 entries. And only seems to affect one account of mine.

I spent a long time trying to see how and where and when this happened. Nothing logical.

I found nothing odd in Preferences.

There is a good fast way to find a transaction. If this was a recent transaction you entered and the transaction got sorted in a different place so you can't find it (like if you entered the wrong year on it) then you can sort the register by Order Entered. Click on "Account Actions", select "Sorting Options", select "by order entered"

I'm staying on Quicken 2013 Premier for Windows.

Other than ensuring that your account registers are correctly sorted by Date, another thing to verify is that your account registers aren't filtered to only show certain types of transactions or only a certain range of dates.

Please make sure that the Filter fields are showing the settings as in the image above.
Also check to make sure that there is no text in the Search field. If, instead of the magnifying glass, the Search field shows an "X", click the "X" to clear the Search field.

  • I was having the same problem with only one account (a checking account). I did File/Validate and Repair/Validate File. It found and fixed the qdata file. The summary report said that there was a problem that it fixed on the checking account. Seems to be working now.
